Stephanie Heydt

Stephanie Heydt joined the High Museum of Art as Margaret and Terry Stent Curator of American Art in 2009. She has also worked at the Gulf Coast Museum of Art in Largo, Florida, the American Art Department at the Harvard University Art Museums, and the Terra Museum of American Art (now the Terra Foundation for American Art) in Chicago.

Heydt has received multiple fellowships, including an Andrew W. Mellon Research Grant, a Robert C. Vose Jr. and Ann Peterson Vose Scholarship for the Study of American Art, an Adelson Fellowship in American Art, and a predoctoral fellowship with the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, DC.

Heydt’s exhibition catalogues at the High include Rising Up: Hale Woodruff’s Murals at Talladega College, Go West! Art of the American Frontier from the Buffalo Bill Center of the West, American Encounters: The Simple Pleasures of Still Life, and “Something over Something Else”: Romare Bearden’s Profile Series. She has also contributed essays to collection catalogues for the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, the Fogg Art Museum, and the Terra Foundation for American Art.

Heydt is committed to serving the museum profession and training the next generation of curators. She serves as Managing Curator for the High’s academic mentorship programs for graduate and undergraduate students considering curatorial careers. A graduate of Cornell University, she earned her MA in art history from the University of Chicago and her PhD in art history from Boston University.
