Final Weeks! Ends November 29, 2020
The title Murmuration means to flock, which is something that the architectural firm SO – IL encourages visitors and birds alike to do at this spot.
Inspired by Atlanta’s reputation as the “city in a forest” and by the High’s proximity to the city’s largest greenspace, Piedmont Park, SO – IL and partners Jing Liu and Florian Idenburg have designed a 2,350-square-foot mesh canopy, suspended over The Woodruff Arts Center’s Carroll Slater Sifly Piazza by a steel framework. Evoking the environment of neighboring trees, this sculptural pavilion, complete with feeding stations and perches, also reflects upon the loss of billions of birds in recent decades due to dramatic changes in their natural habitats. Beneath the shade of the mesh, guests can migrate through the space and participate in their own “perching and nesting” with the birds by using seating elements including the pods suspended from the canopy.
